Monato Zoo and Other Places I’ve Seen

First off, I just want to begin by apologising for not posting this yesterday. I’ve been feeling unwell the past couple of days and I just didn’t feel up to doing much of anything yesterday except sleep and read. Still, better late than never, right?

Aside from that, my holiday has been going quite well so far. On Tuesday, we took Wolfie (my sister’s dog) to the beach for a walk, along with a neighbour whose dog he is friends with. Afterwords we went for a drive to check out a few little towns. We drove through Victor Harbour, Port Elliot and Goolwa. Continue reading

Mt Barker

First off, let me apologise for not posting a story for Fiction Friday this week. I spent the morning travelling to the airport and, due to a delayed flight, the entire afternoon at the airport. By the time I arrived in Adelaide, I was simply too damn tired to write anything.

Anyway, I’ve been here a few days now. It’s been great seeing my mother, sister and brother-in-law. Today, Mum and I took the bus into Mt Barker. The route took us through Harndorf which seems like a pretty little town. I hope we get a chance to visit while we are here. Continue reading

I would like to apologise for the lack of posts this past week. I have been offline due to an unpaid bill. I am back online now though and I will add (and backdate) the missing posts tomorrow. I need to use this afternoon to catch up on all my emails and facebook is probably overloaded with messages by now as well. I’ll get those posts up asap.

In the meantime, why not check out my other blog Turning Pages?

First 10 Search Results For Rafferty’s Rules

I am currently sitting here with a sore throat, an aching head and an apparent desire to cough up my lungs. I feeling so generally miserable that nothing is able to keep my interest, leaving me bored out of my mind. I am also unable to concentrate well enough to come up with a decent topic for today’s blog post. What do you get when you combine both those states of mind? Googling yourself, of course. However, googling your own name is so last year, so instead I decided to google the name of my blog. In a (not so) interesting twist on my usual Top Ten posts, here are the first ten results for a search on Rafferty’s Rules: Continue reading

I have had absolutely no time to write even the simplest blog entry for the longest time, so there is a large time skip between my most recent post and this one. Continue reading

I am not Ignoring you!

Over the past few months I have had a lot of people liking my posts and following my blog. I have been really busy lately and haven’t been able to get around to reading your blogs as quickly as I would like. I just want to let everybody know that I really do appreciate you stopping by and reading my blog. I have saved every email informing me of likes and follows and I promise that I will get around to checking out your blogs eventually, I just cannot guarantee exactly when. Thanks for your patience!

I am in heaven. I feel like all those porcelain women strutting down the red carpet, dressed (or undressed) in their elaborate, one-of-a-kind dresses, giving interviews and answering questions amidst flashes of blinding light so bright that one could be … Continue reading

I am in the process of pulling up all my old blog posts for editing. I am doing this for two reasons. Firstly (and most importantly), I am removing all the ‘Read More’ tags. I do not need them with my current theme and, as I intend to create hard copies using Blog2Print, these tags are more trouble than they are worth. As anyone who has used Blog2Print will know, this program does not recognise ‘Read More’ tags, which causes problems with books only printing the portion above the tag.

My second reason for editing old posts is to add a featured image to posts without one. I am doing this because my new theme is visually based, and posts without a picture show up as an ugly grey rectangle. Since I am in editing mode anyway, I have decided to go one step further and spruce up my posts with Zemanta. Unfortunately, however, Zemanta images cannot be used as the featured image. Therefore, I have assigned a different picture for each of my categories. In the (frequent) case that a post only has a Zemanta image, I will use the generic picture I have assigned to the relevant category as its featured image.

Anyhow, one (rather pleasant) side effect of updating my old posts is that they are once again being brought to the attention of my readers. In response to the frustration expressed by one such reader, I have re-opened comments on old posts. Previously, I had comments automatically close after a year and a day. From now until further notice, they are permanently open.

I would like to encourage everybody to check out some of my old posts and leave comments while you still can. After all, I may change my mind again further down the track! Bear in mind, though, that I am still in the process of editing. I am working my way from oldest to youngest post, and I am currently up to August 2008. If you are looking at any post younger than this don’t be surprised if a picture or related article suddenly appears from one day to the next!

BAYS House of Learning Blog

Over the last few days I have been setting up a blog for BAYS House of Learning. Every day or every few days, the children will post what they have been learning. They will have fun and practice their writing and computer skills.

I will also be using it as a kind of learning record, so it should be easier at the end of the year when I have to report to the authorities.

After much deliberation, I settled on Multiply as the host because I like their privacy settings. The privacy settings are extremely user friendly and customizable for each individual post as well as the entire blog. This is important when children have a web presence.

If anyone is interested in checking it out, here is the URL:

Very F***ing Pissed Off!

Real Estate

Real Estate (Photo credit: wvhomes)

F*k! My 6yr old daughter just came inside with a piece of metal in her foot. The f*ing labourers the real-estate hired to clean out our gutters left all the debris everywhere for us the clean up. This included bits of metal of all sizes. We cleaned up all we could find, but this bit was so small it didn’t stand a chance of being seen.

I am so pissed off I could kill someone right now – these guys knew there were little kids living here. Would have killed them to be more careful what they threw on the g
